Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun. Jupiter is the largest planet of the solar system and can be observed with any telescope. Unfortunately, the next couple of years, Jupiter will be low in the sky (at least at 52N) and hence hard to photograph due to turbulence in our atmosphere.

This image shows Jupiter. A closer look shows a dark dot near the center of the disk. This is the shadow of the jovian moon Europa.

After a long period, I managed to image Jupiter again on January 12, 2013. This image shows Jupiter and her moon Io. The two images are about 30 minutes apart, with clear motion of the moon.
